Ian Francis is a digital marketing professional who completed his Master’s degree focused in digital media entrepreneurship and journalism at Stanford University, where he also spent time writing for the university’s official social media channels.
After leaving the Silicon Valley in 2014, Ian continued his digital marketing work as a growth strategist for startups in the US and Brazil, where he also began working as a point-of-contact producer for Snapchat’s content team in emerging markets. Leading up to and during the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Ian helped run the olympic organizing committee's digital media team, which included managing the official Rio 2016 social media accounts throughout the games.
In 2017, Ian left South America for Europe and joined Digital Knights in Berlin as head of marketing and communications to spearhead the bootstrapped startup's market penetration strategy and company growth. Mentioning anything beyond that point might spoil the book.
Ian has been a writer since his time at Marquette University, where he completed a double-major Bachelor's degree in Journalism and Philosophy while also working as the senior columnist for the award-winning Marquette Tribune. After a five-year hiatus, Ian independently revived his column to share travel stories, monologues, and jokes.
